A moodboard for images and videos
Photos and clips fill their cards edge to edge at their real proportions, packed into a clean masonry layout.
A native board for your Mac
FileCanvas spreads the documents, PDFs, code, images, videos, and folders already on your Mac across one infinite board. On-device AI groups them by meaning. Nothing moves unless you say so.
Folders hide what you have. A board shows it, keeps it in place, and helps it find a home.
Pick Desktop, Downloads, Documents, or any project folder. FileCanvas watches them and keeps the board up to date.
Pan, zoom, and arrange. Images and videos show full size; documents look the way they do in Finder.
One command lays files out by meaning, so related ones cluster in named groups. Keep the result or undo it.
New downloads wait in the Inbox. Sort Inbox files them into your existing groups, and you review the result first.
MADE FOR EVERY KIND OF FILE
Web clippings have their own apps. FileCanvas is for the files you already have: the PDFs, the code, the screenshots, the folders.
Find files by name, by the text inside PDFs and screenshots (read on your Mac), or by what they are about.
Ask any card for its look-alikes and near-matches, from the same on-device understanding that draws the map.
A drawer at the right edge of your screen with pinned and recent files, ready to drag into an upload dialog, Mail, or Slack.
Collapse a group and it becomes a small, slowly turning ball of its thumbnails. Expand it when you need it again.
Named, colored regions that nest and collapse, sticky notes, text labels, and connectors. Undo works for every canvas edit.
Keep a board per client, course, or trip, and jump between them with ⌘K. Space opens Quick Look.
Native, with trackpad pan and pinch zoom, drag and drop to and from Finder, and light and dark appearance.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
FileCanvas is a board, not a file manager in disguise. It remembers positions, regions, and notes, and leaves your folders alone.
Grouping, sorting, search, and OCR use Apple's on-device frameworks. File contents are never uploaded.
There is nothing to sign up for, no cloud to sync to, and no analytics in the app or on this site.
Arranging the board never touches your folders. The only file action is Move to Trash, and it always asks first.
Optional smarter group names can use your own Anthropic API key. It is off by default and sends only file names, plus short excerpts if you allow it. Read the privacy policy
ONE PRICE. NO SUBSCRIPTION.
Try everything free for 14 days. If you decide not to buy, your boards still open and your files are exactly where they were.

Requires macOS 14 or later on an Apple Silicon Mac. Apple Intelligence features need macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on.

No. The board stores card positions, regions, notes, and folder bookmarks in FileCanvas's own library. Your files stay in their folders with their names. The only file action is Move to Trash, and it asks for confirmation every time.
FileCanvas needs macOS 14 or later on a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs are not supported.
Not for most things. Organize by Map, Sort Inbox, search inside images, and Find Similar use on-device frameworks available on macOS 14. Features that use Apple Intelligence, like nicer group names and understanding longer search phrases, need macOS 26 with Apple Intelligence turned on. Without it, FileCanvas falls back to its own on-device names and search.
Either way it is the same app, with the same features, for the same $29. Buying here gets you a download and a license key. The Mac App Store version starts with a free 14-day trial and unlocks with an in-app purchase you can restore. Both are coming soon.
Not file contents. FileCanvas has no account, no telemetry, and no cloud service. The one exception is opt-in: smarter group names through your own Anthropic API key, which sends file names, and short excerpts only if you allow it. It is off by default. See the privacy policy.
Email hello@halfwind.studio with any question or problem, and include your receipt if it is about a purchase. Mac App Store purchases are refunded through Apple.
