FileCanvas is made by Halfwind Studio. The short version: the app does not collect data about you or your files, and there is no account.

The FileCanvas app

• Your files stay where they are and are never uploaded.
• FileCanvas stores board layouts, regions, notes, and folder bookmarks in its own library on your Mac.
• Grouping, sorting, search, text recognition, and Find Similar run on your Mac. To do that, FileCanvas reads file names, the start of text files, the first pages of PDFs, and image content, and keeps short excerpts and image features in its local library. You can turn this off and clear it in Settings › AI.
• Features that use Apple Intelligence use Apple's on-device model.
• The app has no telemetry, analytics, advertising, or tracking.

Optional smarter group names

You can choose to name groups with an Anthropic model using your own API key. This is off by default. When you turn it on, FileCanvas sends file names, and short excerpts only if you allow it, directly from your Mac to Anthropic. The key is stored in your Mac's Keychain. Anthropic's handling of that data is covered by your agreement with Anthropic.

Buying FileCanvas

Direct purchases are processed by Stripe. Halfwind Studio receives the details Stripe provides for an order, such as your email address, to deliver the download and support your purchase. Your license key contains your purchase email address and order number so the app can verify it offline. Mac App Store purchases are handled by Apple.

This website

This site uses no cookies, analytics, or third-party scripts, and its fonts are served from this site. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver and protect it.
